An Ode

ODE TO ANDRÉ AND COMPANY

Earlier this year, my Brit friends came to stay
I took them all around the Cape - we went out every day
I showed them every sight with a great deal of pride;
So much so, I wanted to become a Tourist Guide!

It's not easy - as you know, you have to do a course
You pay your money, go to class - you cannot have remorse
Lectures start, the work begins, you drive around the town
Flora, fauna, Stellenbosch - you work until sundown.

You learn of the Xhosa, Malays and the Dutch,
History, Geology - there is so much.
You take in Breede Valley, Hermanus, West Coast
Copious information with which to boast.

Company Gardens, Mount Nelson Hotel,
The Castle, the mountain, there's so much to tell.
The Township Tour, I have to admit,
That one for me was a major hit.

The collage of photos - now that was a task
One thought that the guessing was too much to ask
I visited the library, I called family and friend
But with lots of help, got there in the end.

Graduation has come - I hope I will pass
Even if I'm not at the top of the class
All I set out for was to follow a dream
To join a Cape Town Tour Guiding team.

I made lots of friends like Gertraud and Max
And together we learnt a new word, it's "pax"
I wish them all well as they start their career
And want them to know that I hold them all dear.

So André and Muda and Pieter and Kim
You've filled us with knowledge right up to the brim.
I thank you so much for all you have done
I've enjoyed it immensely - it was such great fun.
